Inline and iCalendar Attachment Integration

deem.com

Overview

With inline integration, the Notification Service sends regular email messages that are invitations or appointments. The emails look the same as email requests for a meeting. With iCalendar attachment integration, the Notification Service sends emails with one or more iCalendar (“.ics”) files attached. Most calendar applications, including Outlook and Apple Calendar (formerly iCal), can open attached “.ics” files.

These integrations require no implementation on your part, except to enable the integration in the Partner Dashboard. Integration with contacts or address books is not provided.

Enabling the Integration

The site administrator enables inline or iCalendar attachment integration as a groupware rule for a group. The administrator can first define a group of users, or use the Everyone group, and then add groupware rules to the group.

To assign the groupware rule to the group, follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Partner Dashboard as the site administrator.
  2. Click the Rules tab, and then click the Groupware Rules link.
  3. Click the Add button next to the group name (or the Everyone group).
  4. Enter a Rule Description that describes the intent of this rule, and click the Activate Rule checkbox.
  5. Scroll down to the “Then” section of the page, and click the “Enable iCal Calendar Attachment” or the “Enable Inline Calendar Update” checkbox.
  6. Under the “Enable iCal Calendar Attachment” or “Enable Inline Calendar Update” checkbox, click either the MS Outlook Format (for the Outlook email format) or the Lotus Notes Format (for the Lotus Notes email format). If in doubt, or if you have neither of these clients, choose the MS Outlook Format.
  7. Click the Save button to save the settings.
  8. To commit these changes, click the Changes not applied link in the top right corner of the page, and then click the Commit button.
