Southwest as a GDS Ancillary Source (no longer used)

Southwest Airlines participates in all GDSs (Sabre, Amadeus, Apollo, and Worldspan) and ITA. Southwest should not be added as a Ancillary Source using the GDS.

Web Sourcing for Air: Southwest Direct Access

Note: Southwest Direct Access (SDA) is a Premium Service and requires a separate agreement with Deem and Southwest to be in place before configuration can take place. If you are unsure if your agency has this service included in your reseller agreement with Deem, please contact your Deem Channel Sales Manager. To request SDA, enter a support case (see Entering a Support Case for instructions).

Tip: For an overview of SDA, see Southwest Direct Access (SDA) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

To configure Southwest Direct Access, follow these steps:

  1. If you are not already on the Add Ancillary Source or Edit Ancillary Source page, follow the steps outlined in Adding or Changing Agency Settings, and click the Add Ancillary Source link to add an ancillary source (the Add Ancillary Source page appears), or the link in the Source Name column to edit an existing ancillary source (the Edit Ancillary Source page appears).

  2. On the Add Ancillary Source or Edit Ancillary Source page, enter or edit the name to identify the source in the Source Name field (such as "SDA").

  3. Choose Web: Southwest from the Source dropdown menu. Additional fields appear:

    1. Southwest ID: Enter your agreement number. This number is validated.

    2. Would you like the system to add ancillary passive segments to your primary GDS? Select the "Yes, system generated" radio button.

    3. Is GDS fare validation required? Choose one of the following:

      • Click the No radio button. The is the best practice. GDS-derived tickets are managed by the agency and uploaded as offline unused tickets.

      • Click the Yes radio button to push the booking either to the SDA service or to the GDS based on a threshold setting. Additional options appear:

        1. Minimum cost savings required to allow Southwest booking: Enter a threshold amount and select a currency from the dropdown list. The threshold amount is the minimum cost savings that would trigger using the SDA service rather than the GDS.

        2. GDS Source: Choose a GDS from the dropdown list.

        3. TA Group: Choose a TA Group from the dropdown list.

        4. Pseudo City Code: Enter the PCC.

        5. Default Queue: Enter a default queue for processing the PNRs (where the PNR will be sent for fulfillment once booked).

        6. Airline Private Rate Codes: Enter any private rate codes, if appropriate.

  4. Click the Save button.

Note: A billing address is required for a payment card used in any SDA booking. The traveler can use a payment card stored in his or her profile.

  2. On the Add Ancillary Source or Edit Ancillary Source page, enter or edit the name to identify the source in the Source Name field (such as "Travelfusion").

  3. Choose WEB: TRAVELfusion from the Source dropdown menu. Additional fields appear:

    1. Airline:  Select the airline from the dropdown menu.

    2. Source Override:  Choose one of the following options:

      • Replace Primary Source Content: This option is recommended. With this option, you have to specify at least one airline. You can enter as many airlines as needed separated by semicolon. The system makes a call to both the primary and ancillary sources. When a response is returned, the system compares the primary and ancillary flights. Whenever the same flight is returned from the ancillary source, the flight from the ancillary source is used instead of the primary source.

      • Supplement Primary Source Content: With this option, the system compares primary and secondary flights and uses flights from the ancillary source if they don't exist in the response from the primary source.

      • Exclude Primary Source Content: With this option, all flights for the specified airlines are ignored from primary source and only flights from the ancillary source are used. If a user selects a flight from an ancillary source, then that flight is booked in the ancillary source.

    3. Would you like the system to add ancillary passive segments to your primary GDS? Choose Yes, using Custom PNRYes, system generated, or No, do not add passive segments to primary GDS

      • We recommend choosing Yes, system generated, or No, do not add passive segments to primary GDS.

      • For details on passive segments, see "Passive Segment Processing" in Adding or Changing Agency Settings.

  4. Click Save to save your changes.

  • Can a site card be used to book these rates?

  • How can I change or cancel a Booking.com reservation?

    • All reservation modifications can be made in Deem. Alternately, travelers can use the Modify your booking link found in the Booking.com email confirmation.

    • Since a change is essentially a cancellation followed by a new booking, Booking.com will generate a cancellation email then a new confirmation email. Cancellation example, below:

note: example email; actual email may vary.

Booking.com generated emails are not customizable and may vary over time based on style updates made by the supplier.

  • Can Booking.com be self-enabled (by the TMC)?

Yes, the service is very simple to enable and can be managed by the TMC. This can be as simple as just enabling Booking.com for a customer with no PNR edit documentation requirements or custom passive segment requirements. This may require Professional Services assistance at the initial implementation, when evaluating TMC PNR edit and passive segment requirements. The TMC may choose to use limited PNR edit and default passive segment format, which will keep the scope of enabling very simple. If they do require assistance on PNR edits and passive segment creation, it will impact the implementation timeframe. However, once implemented, the TMC can easily copy the corresponding scripts to each new site they enable. There are few extra steps that are easy and can be added to their cloned and Rise sites.
